Fourteen of us (staff and family members) spent a hot Saturday afternoon at Asia’s first one stop gardening lifestyle hub, Hort Park, at the southern western part of Singapore.
We started with a healthy lunch, and then went on to do a therapeutic class in learning to do our own terrariums. It was indeed a fun de-stressing activity as we could be creative to show off our own style. There was a vote as to which were the most creative, and the winners were Vincent’s wife, Shirley and Siti!
As it was a very hot afternoon, our agency, Senserene arranged for two indoor games. The first game was using plasticine to create the IDS logo, blindfolded! The group was divided into 3 teams. Although one team finished very quickly and their logo looked good, Dr Wong’s team, who finished second won this game as the other staff who voted believed that the logo made by the first team was too good to be true to be done blindfolded.
The second game was to use one piece of paper to make the tallest free standing tower. Dr Lam’s team won the first prize as her team’s free standing paper tower was 143cm tall!
Finally when the sun had gone down a little, an experienced Nature Society guide, Teck Chye, brought us for an hour‘s walk around the Park and introduced us to many plants, flowers, herbs, insects and even fruit bats! Teck Chye was informative, humorous and he kept the group interested.
The enjoyable afternoon ended with Dr Wong and Dr Lam presenting each of us with a pedometer which will measure the number of our steps taken each day! Hopefully each of us will use it so that we can keep up with a healthy lifestyle by walking at least 10,000 steps daily!
