What is Japanese Encephalitis?
It is a disease caused by the mosquito-borne Japanese encephalitis virus. Severe rigors mark the onset of this disease in humans. Fever, headache and malaise are other non-specific symptoms of this disease which may last for a period of between 1 and 6 days. Encephalitis manifests with high grade fever, convulsions leading to coma etc. sometimes leading to death.

What is Japanese Encephalitis?
Case fatality is around 20 to 40 percent. People who are travelling to rural areas especially during transmission season are at risk and are advised to take the vaccination.
